Dewald Brevis | Player of the Match:
I’m feeling great, really enjoying my cricket and just having fun on the field. It’s important for me to stay true to who I am. Ever since I was young, I’ve always loved being in the moment while playing. I kept telling myself it’s cool, not hot, just to stay calm. I really needed a knock like that, and I’m thankful for the opportunity. Everyone has encouraged me to just keep playing consistently. AB has always been an inspiration to me and has played a role in helping me develop my game. But at the same time, I want to forge my own identity. It’s truly a privilege to even be mentioned alongside someone like AB de Villiers.
MS Dhoni:
It felt nice. I wouldn’t say it was a packed house today, but there was a decent turnout. It’s always good to wrap up with a win. This was one of those near-flawless outings. Our catching, which hasn’t been great this season, was spot-on today.
As for what lies ahead, I have four to five months to make a decision [about continuing or not]. At this level, you must always perform at your peak. It's not just about statistics — what truly matters is how strong your drive remains. I’ve got enough time to reflect. I’ll head back to Ranchi. I’m not confirming retirement, nor am I promising a return. I have the benefit of time on my side.
When the season began, four of our first six matches were in Chennai. We won tosses and chose to chase, but felt pressure while batting second. That made me concerned about our batting unit. But now, every player has stepped up. Once Ritu returns next season, he won’t have too many concerns to handle.
You definitely feel your age when someone like Suryavanshi bows to touch your feet. I even asked Andre, ‘How old are you?’ Turns out, he’s exactly 25 years younger than me!
Noor Ahmad:
A great way to wrap up the tournament. Although our overall season wasn’t the best, it feels nice to end on a high note. (On the favorite wicket he took) — the third one was the most enjoyable. It came a bit quicker off the surface, which I liked. Everyone gave it their all throughout the season — we kept pushing, and that’s the nature of cricket. Ups and downs are part of the game. Hopefully, we’ll return stronger next time.
Shubman Gill:
I think we lost the game during the powerplay — couldn’t really recover from there. Chasing a target of 230 is always tough. Teams that are already out of the tournament tend to play freely and with full intensity. We struggled to stay composed under pressure, and I feel that cost us. Containing runs in the middle overs is crucial, and if you don’t manage that, it becomes difficult. That’s an area where we’ve fallen short in the past couple of matches. (On the dressing room atmosphere) — this loss will definitely sting. The positive, however, is that we still have a couple of matches remaining, so the team will be motivated heading into the Mohali fixture. Personally, I’m excited to return to my hometown — I’ve played a lot of cricket there, and it should be a thrilling experience.
